Happy
aka Happy-cat and Psycho-kitty

Born: Spring 2002

Our fourth addition but our second oldest cat is Happy, a beautiful and constantly underfoot kitty.  We picked the name Happy because anytime she is around her favorite humans (Dan or me) she is constantly purring and kneading her paws like all happy cats do.  She'll even give us Eskimo kisses when she hasn't seen us in a while (like when she hasn't seen us in three hours or more).

Happy joined us in late July of 2003 when she showed up while I was watering plants.  She didn't want me to get too close to her, but I put some food and water out for her and talked to her while she ate.  This went on for about 10 days and she quickly began to trust me enough to love on me and even let me pick her up.  I checked around the neighborhood to see if she belong to anyone.  The general consensus was that she was a stray, the leftover from a litter that was born in the neighborhood a little more than a year before.  I didn't want her to get hit by a car or have unwanted kittens, so Dan and I took her to the vet to get her checked out with the idea that we would see if someone else would adopt her.  She was given a clean bill of health, but after bonding with her the weeks before, I couldn't let someone else have her.  Dan was also starting to bond with her too, so she came to live at our house.

Because she had been a stray for so long, she took almost two months to get used to the house and the other cats.  During that time, she lived in the bathroom when Dan nor I were around to supervise.  Now she has adapted enough that she is given free roaming rights at all times (though she is still a little rough with the other cats, but she's always improving).  She is still learning to share with the other kitties, but has stopped looking at them like her next meal, so we are thrilled!

Happy can usually be found directly where you were planning to walk, in the middle of our bed or lurking around the food bowl, whining.  Happy has the obsession with food that most stray and feral cats do.  If even the slightest glimmer of the bottom of the food bowl is visible, Happy demands that it be refilled.  And boy, is she demanding!

Happy had quite a bit of trauma going on with her tail for about 5 or 6 months in late 2004.  Fortunately, it is all over now.  Of course, for that special walk down memory lane, I've created the page The Unhappy Tale of Happy's Tail.

Happy is very difficult kitty to photograph.  If either of her humans stops several feet from her (like when taking a picture), she becomes impatient to get the attention she deserves and will walk up to said person to demand her lovin'.  I have several pictures of Happy that would have been so cute, but ended up a blurry picture of Happy's ear as she ran up to me to rub up against me.
