James Surls
When Miho and Kei were here, we went to the Grace Museum in Abilene. They had an exhibit room in which was work by James Surls. The lady at the museum said you either love his stuff or hate it. Well, I'm firmly in the love category. Which is weird because I typically don't like abstract art. But this is very clean and organic, simultaneously mathematical and floral. I enjoy the organic aspect but I think it is the repetition and cleaner mathematical nature of the work that makes me enjoy it so.
After going through his website, I've discovered I like his more recent stuff best - specifically his sculpture done between 2005 and 2008 - and I pretty much am creeped out by any of his work with eyes. Anyway, below are a few pics from his website of my favs (particularly the last one).

Love what he does with leaves, the rest I'm not so fond of, just sayin'. thnxbai
I totally get it. I'm totally creeped out by his stuff with eyes. Those drawings I find oddly attractive, though. But if I could buy one of them, I'd do one of the metal "flower" sculptures. So awesome!
