Merry Christmas and Stuff

Well, I have been out of pocket for a little bit. Travel is a grand thing, no? Don't know when I'll get to post this (composing in Notepad, don't cha know) so I'll just compile and post when able.

December 22
First and foremost, something I should have posted before when I still had my home network available and didn't have to depend on "the kindness of strangers":
I have officially been terminated from my job. I guess I should explain. Since it was up in the air, I haven't really posted anything about it. But on October 2, I was told that I had to go back on leave - no choice - since I still wasn't 100% from after my surgery (I wasn't able to walk the miles required by a portion of my job duties). So, long story short, I went out on leave, spent almost two months on short-term disability healing, then when I was ready to go back, was told that there was no job available for me since my job had already been filled (by the temp that I had been working with - I knew that would happen since my job was no longer protected due to the total amount of time on leave I had already used this year). Anyway, things hung out at that point - neither employed nor jobless, until I spoke to someone on Wednesday that let me know that paperwork would be put in to terminate me.

So now I am jobless officially now. I'm not too upset about it and neither is Dan. He's been looking forward to rolling over my 401k for ages now. Silly boy. But now I need to see if there is any chance of getting unemployment. Hmm. Get some of my tax dollars back.

In other fun news, I was complaining to Dan about not having any Ducks stuff with the new logo. Well, Super Mother-in-Law comes through! Faster than a speeding bullet (though maybe just with a charge card (: )! Anyway, now I have a way cute Duck's t-shirt and Duck's sleep pants. Oh, and an obnoxious orange practice jersey that is surprisingly and way cute. Now if only Dan would get me Giguere for Christmas... I promise to feed him and walk him and brush him and water him every day! Anyway, Dan also got some nifty Blues goodies, but honestly, it's the Blues so who cares? (:

. . . . .

Randomly, I've been getting random headaches lately and can't figure out why. Sigh. So far it seems that Splenda and tater tots in almost any form do it. Odd, yes? I'm sure there is something (like a preservative or something) that is doing it. Can't figure out what yet.

Also, St. Louis is cold. There is still snow on the ground in some places, particularly parking lots where it had been shoveled into a pile that was so large, the recent rains haven't been able to melt it. I have no idea how on earth I survived four years in Iowa, spending whole winters there (well, aside a short break to go home for Christmas). Of course, during those four years, I had to deal with lots of seasonal depression. Man, and now I remember why. Not only is it cold here, but it gets dark at like 4:30pm. And even when it isn't dark, it has been so overcast and not bright. Makes me cold and grumpy just thinking about it.

But, bonus for being in the arctic north in the dead of winter - I get to play with my in-laws kitties. Dan's parents have Simone and Max. Max is kind of a Princess-like kitty (evil to all save those he loves) so he's not so great with the cuddles, but Simone is a doll. She makes me think of Gidgie. She's got a bi-colored nose and a nice square muzzle. She's also colored kind of like the negative version of Gidgie. And did I mention that she's a total doll. She's so sweet, soft and cuddly. She doesn't cuddle up like the Gidgie does, but she'll let me pick her up and hug her and I just adore loving on her. And then my sister-in-law has Duncan and Molly, both of who are sweet and adorable. Dunkie is a chunkmiester and Molly is a fuffy little girl. Sigh. They make me miss my babies.

December 23

I don't operate well in the cold. I think my body is trying to hibernate. 27 degrees this morning. Brr. Not cool. Well, actually, yes, very very very cool.

. . . . .

Dan went to a hockey game tonight with his dad. I stayed home to hibernate. Seriously. We've got another game on the 26th which I am going to, regardless of hibernation need. So tonight, I will nap, cuddle kitties, play on the computer, nap, and nap some more.

. . . . .

Not much to say other than MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! Or, as my uncle's email stated it:

To All My Democrat Friends:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or explicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

To My Republican Friends:
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

In regard to the tater tots thing, they are sprayed with a sugar based solution during processing in order to make the a bit crunchier and brown better. Little known and less cared about facts from your Pop.

Merry Christmas! Sorry about the job, but now you can be a stay at home kitty mom like you wanted!

Weird about the headaches though.

Okay, way weird about the sugar on the tots. Though considering spiking blood sugar is one thing that leads to migraines for me, that could totally be it. I got some tots at Sonic on the drive home yesterday and guess what? Yep, headache!

As for the stay-at-home-kitty-mom (SAHKM), Dan and I have talked about it and gone over the budget, and both of us would be happier if I got a part time job. Then we could start paying extra on the house to pay it off early. So now I just need to decide if I want a part time office job or if I want to try for a craft store to get a discount. Decisions, decisions!
